11 Human Behaviors Cats Hate And Wish You Wouldn’t Do

A responsible pet owner should understand that certain human behaviors can affect your cat mentally and physically. For example, shouting at your cat can make it depressed, affecting its general body health.

Nevertheless, are you a fresh cat owner who wants to know which behaviors cats hate and wish you would not do? Continue reading to learn more.

So, what do cats hate?

Loud Noises

Yelling, banging, and loud arguments are things cats hate. Loud noises can even stress your cat. And if not controlled, this stress can cause other behavioral issues like aggression which might take time to manage.

So anytime you see your cat giving you a frowned expression when singing your favorite hymn, your voice might be too loud for your cat.

Clothes

I know you don’t want your cat to be left behind as your friends post their cats dressed up in funny clothes. However, do you know that might not settle well with your cat?

Cats hate being in clothes and never wish to be in them. So, instead of putting your cat in any costumes, save that cash and buy more treats or toys.

Dirty Litter Boxes

How would you feel, having to use a messed toilet in public? Not so good, I presume. The same applies to cats. One of the things cats hate is using dirty litter boxes.

Knowing that’s one of the things cats hate, ensure you clean the litter box. And ensure you have changed the litter regularly.

Get a self-cleaning automatic litter box if you are not a fan of scoping kitty poop now and then.

Scolding or Punishing Your Cat

Negative ways of punishing your cat will never help eliminate bad behaviors. If you like pinching, kicking, or pressing your cat on its poop, you need to stop it.

Instead, focus on other ways of collecting this behavior. Prioritize rewarding the behavior your desire rather than concentrating on making your cat feel inferior after it has done the unthinkable.

Change

One of the things cats hate is unexpected changes in the house. Such a change might affect how they behave.

Even a slight change in the location of your cat’s tree or litter box might dissatisfy your cat. And it’s even worse if you relocate to another house.

If change is inevitable, look for ways you can make your fur baby extra comfortable.

Intruding Their Space

Sometimes your cat needs some time to rest and wind up after spending a chunk of its timekeeping your house free of mice. It also needs time to rest after playing with its favorite feather.

Your cat won’t like it if you keep on poking it or disturbing it while it’s sleeping.

Your cat will appreciate it if you prioritize its privacy. Ensure kids don’t pluck it from its cozy bed when enjoying its Zs. Doing so once or routinely might see your pet become stressed and scared.

Strong Smell

A nice smelling cologne is worth applying once in a while. But are you aware that your cat might dislike that?

Cats have a keen sense of smell, and such a cologne might put your cat off.

So, if your cat was previously all over you when you weren’t applying a certain deodorant, then he is hiding from you all at once, then look no further. It’s that artificial scent putting your cat off.

Tummy Rubs

Dogs like it when you rub and scratch their tummies—they live for such moments.

Expect your cat to react the same way? You’re mistaken. Cats hate tummy rubs. Cats know the tummy is a vulnerable part of the body, and they dislike exposing it for an extended period.

Your cat may be receptive to these rubs for a few minutes, but do it for a second longer, and he will start hissing and run away. Consider observing the cat’s body, and if he looks unsettled when rubbing its tummy, stop it immediately.

Being Left Alone For Long

Similar to dogs, one of the things cats hate is being lonely. Yes, I know we previously said they dislike when you invade their space, but that cats; for you. Leaving your cat for an extended period can result in anxiety.

Sometimes, cats want your presence, even if you won’t be petting them.

If you know, you will be away for too long and no one is around, get your cat a puzzle toy that will occupy it.

Baths

What do cats hate and wish you would not do? It’s bathing them too often. Dipping your cat in a bathtub is never a good idea. Unless you want to have lots of bruises and scratches on your arm, bathing your cat should never be your priority.

You see, cats are clean animals. They do most of the hard work by grooming themselves with their tongues. Research even shows that cats spend 5 hrs a day grooming themselves.

Rather than bathing your cat focus on brushing its coat with a brush or grooming gloves. Only wash your cat if that’s the last option.

Final Thoughts

A diligent pet owner will try to understand what his or her cat dislikes. Once you know your cat’s preferences, it will be easier to live with your fur baby with no commotions in the house.

If you are a new cat owner, you can also ask expert cat owners about what best they do so that they can ceremoniously live with their cats for long.

So, what other human behavior do you think cats hate. Let us know down here in the comment box.
